Balancing life

Back to home

Balancing is something I have realized is very important in so many things. It requires understanding priorities, goals, responsibilities, and fun activities. Some of those may overlap for you.

I read more than I realize. If you ask me if I'm a reader, I'd say no. However, I read blogs, stack overflow, and Reddit at times.

Here is what I'm learning, pay attention, I didn't say I've learned it.

Exercise

Exercise is the most important thing you can do for your mental and physical health.

Sleep

Sleeping is important to keep you sharp, don't deprive yourself of sleep.

Eating

Pay attention to what you eat and how you feel after. That alone may change your eating habits.

Listening

Listen to others. But while texting, listening to a podcast in one ear, or even eating. Distractions create miscommunication which create conflict.

Intention

Do things with intention. That means you are aware, present, and choosing your path, not operating in a pattern or routine.

Relationships

Enjoy the people you surround yourself with. If you don't, leave.

The most important thing I'm learning is everyone wants the same thing. They want to be seen, heard, and respected. So go see someone. No phone, no meal, no tv, no movie, but just direct one on one conversation. You'll be amazed how difficult, awkward, and maybe uncomfortable it is, to look at someone and listen to what they are saying, not preparing your response, not thinking of work, but giving then your full attention.

Balancing life means not always putting yourself first, it means listening more than you talk, it means relationships are more valuable than titles, and time is always more valuable than money.
